CaseStudy – Bespoke Shaker kitchen in Slate Blue and Porcelain

Slate blue shaker kitchen

We recently completed this characterful bespoke kitchen for a wonderful family in Kingsteignton, Devon. A modern skinny shaker door from our Aldana range works beautifully in slate blue base units and porcelain wall units.

Brief

As part of an open-plan kitchen, living and dining room, the space needed to feel cohesive and flow throughout the three areas. Our client wanted a traditional and grand shaker style with cup handles but was keen to bring it right up to date by using contemporary colours, layout and accessories.

The layout needed to allow space for busy family life, and bring everyone together to eat, work and socialise.

The dining room benefits from a lot of natural light, but things can feel quite dark in the kitchen area due to the small cottage window, so it was a must to keep things light and open.

Being a keen baker, our client wanted the kitchen to be functional as well as look the part, so all cookware, utensils and small appliances needed to be close at hand.

The Design

A skinny shaker kitchen in slate blue and porcelain.

The style of kitchen that we have designed for our clients fits perfectly within the style of the property and the existing beams and windows. The slate blue units are a great contrast to the porcelain wall units which help keep things light and airy.

There is a large induction hob with a bespoke extractor cupboard, which is 1970mm in width, allowing a streamlined design and avoiding having to go too close to the window which would have made the room darker.

The bi-fold dresser adds a real feature and is something our client wanted, so that she could have a large storage area and at the same time, hide away mixers, toasters and cookbooks.

This kitchen is filled with lots of large drawers, which our cabinet makers made extra deep to give us maximum storage space and make sure everything needed to prepare and cook meals is easily accessible.

The Details

There are lots of luxurious details throughout this kitchen which add a quality touch to the look and make everyday living that little bit easier.

There are traditional style knobs and cup handles in chrome to add flair to the overall design, beautiful 30mm veined quartz worktops, including a sloping recessed drainer, and a Quooker Flex boiling water tap, with cube extension producing boiling, chilled and sparkling water with a push and twist of a button!

The pull-out bin has a servo-drive opening system, meaning that the bin can be accessed without having to pull the handle. This is especially helpful if your hands are full or dirty from the dishes.

The final look is classic with a modern twist. It is understated, chic and a joy to cook in.
